Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) shares entered correction territory on Tuesday, as competition in the chip-making sector continues to heat up, with companies battling to challenge the semiconductor giant's dominance. The chipmaker's stock ended 2% lower on Tuesday at $853.54 apiece, down 12% from its $974 record high seen in March. A stock is said to have entered correction territory if it drops 10%-20% from a recent high. Turning up the heat in the chip race, Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) unveiled its latest in-house processors to help cut its reliance on outside vendors like Nvidia (NVDA). Intel (INTC) announced its Gaudi 3 accelerator, which has better inference and power efficiency than Nvidia's H100 at a fraction of the cost. "As AI shifts to inferencing from training, we expect Nvidia (NVDA) will face increased competition, but should remain a leader given its entrenched position," S&P Global Ratings said, noting its "early and meaningful lead in AI training and strong position in inferencing."
