Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) shares dipped in the early hours of Monday as Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly closing on a deal to bring OpenAI’s technology on its next iPhone. Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg News reported last week that Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)-backed OpenAI are finalizing terms for a deal to integrate the latter’s ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system. “OpenAI’s potential partnership for search and enhancement of Apple’s Siri as a virtual assistant could hurt Google’s share in some search categories,” said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Mandeep Singh. “Google’s default search on iOS ecosystem has been key to its dominant share, which could be challenged by Apple partnering with OpenAI,” Singh added. As for Apple (AAPL), the OpenAI alliance should be a good move, said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Anurag Rana, especially as the tech giant ramps up its AI ambitions. Shares of Apple (AAPL) were marginally up premarket on Monday, while Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL) shares were down around 2%.
