Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has called for "verified tweets" on social media following a hack on the official Cardano Foundation account, where hackers spread false information and promoted scams. Hoskinson's proposal for verified tweets, utilizing public-key cryptography for identity verification and potentially including biometric authentication, aims to enhance security and prevent such incidents.
The hack involved the promotion of a fictitious token and a false claim about a lawsuit from the US SEC. While the malicious tweets were deleted, the Cardano Foundation has not issued an official statement addressing the incident. In response, Hoskinson suggested that the Cardano community would investigate the breach, and federal authorities might also be interested.
Hoskinson's concept of verified tweets, initially proposed in 2020, is designed to strengthen identity verification without disrupting the platform's operational model. He proposed implementing it for free if supported by individuals like Elon Musk. This renewed call for verified tweets seeks to bolster security measures and mitigate the impact of social media hacks.
