Today, Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) filed a recall for over 2 million vehicles due to issues with its Autopilot driver-assistance system. A long investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concluded that the system does not effectively keep drivers engaged, leading to potentially hazardous outcomes. The NHTSA will continue to monitor the efficacy of Tesla's over-the-air software updates, which were recently deployed, while keeping the investigation open. Earlier this week, a fatal crash in Virginia involving a Tesla using Autopilot once again brought the system's safety into question, resulting in a 1.38% drop in Tesla's premarket trading stock price to $233.76, compared to its 52-week range of $101.81 to $299.29.
