Creditors of the defunct crypto exchange Mt. Gox have begun receiving repayments after a decade-long shutdown. The refunds are being sent in fiat or bitcoins, with reports indicating that Japanese Yen refunds are being sent to users through PayPal. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi initiated communication about the repayments on November 21, 2023, and the initial report of repayments emerged on December 21, 2023.
Creditors stranded since the February 2014 shutdown of Mt. Gox are now reportedly receiving fiat repayments for their Bitcoin. According to reports on social media and Reddit, it appears that refunds denominated in Japanese Yen are being sent to users through PayPal. Transactions have been verified as legitimate by several users, with one reportedly receiving their payment through a bank transfer crediting Japanese Yen on December 21, 2023.
