Ripple CTO Paolo Ardoino announced that an attempted attack on Bitfinex using a "Partial Payments Exploit" failed due to the way the exchange handles a data field for the delivered amount. A since-deleted 'Whale Alert' tweet observed a transaction of over 25 billion XRP which was later reported as an issue with reading the Ripple node response. Fortunately, Bitfinex's proper configuration of their systems prevented a potentially devastating attack on Ripple and its native token. XRP prices spiked and dumped around 3% at the time of the attempted exploit but have since recovered to trade up 2.2% on the day at $0.586 during early trading in Asia on Monday morning.
