Stock index futures were little changed Wednesday as rates edged up slightly. The 10-year Treasury yield rose by 2 basis points to 4.12%, with the 2-year yield remaining flat at 4.41%. An upcoming record $42B auction of 10-year Treasury notes is on the horizon, while forecasts indicate a narrowing trade deficit of $62B for December. UBS' Paul Donovan noted that trade will be a key focus in 2024, particularly as elections encourage economic nationalism and structural changes in trade patterns are observed in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution. Specifically, the focus will be on imports, but shifts in US exports should not be overlooked. This comes as the market continues to assess potential short-term pressures that could lead to a re-drift of yields higher after recent dramatic rises.
