Stock index futures rose on Tuesday, while rates remained relatively quiet as investors awaited the U.S. durable goods and consumer confidence reports. Dow futures climbed 0.3%, S&P 500 futures were up 0.5%, and Nasdaq 100 futures rose by 0.6%. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 2 basis points to 4.23%, while the 2-year yield held steady at 4.59%. Economists anticipate a 1.2% increase in durable goods orders for February, with core durables expected to rise by 0.4%. Pantheon Macroeconomics expressed pessimism over the core durable goods orders for February and predicted minimal change in the Conference Board's consumer confidence index, projecting a marginal uptick to 106.9. They stated, "The resilience of the consumer confidence numbers suggests that a much sharper slowdown is unlikely, at least for the time being." Additionally, markets are attentively monitoring orders ex-transportation, which are expected to have remained relatively unchanged. The new orders index of the ISM manufacturing survey has shown modest growth over the past year, although it still indicates a slow decline in real terms, according to Pantheon Macroeconomics.
