BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) disclosed multimillion-dollar performance-based bonuses it granted to some top managers who may be in line to lead the world's largest asset manager. In its proxy statement, the asset manager awarded $8.5M each in performance-based option awards to Robert Goldstein, senior managing director and chief operating officer; and Mark Wiedman, senior managing director and head of Global Client Business. Martin Small, senior managing director, chief financial officer and global head of corporate strategy, received $6.5M of the stock option awards. Gary Shedlin, former CFO and now vice chairman, was awarded just under $2.0M of the options. BlackRock (BLK) Chairman and CEO Laurence Fink and President Robert Kapito didn't receive any performance-based option awards. Other top managers were also granted options, but they weren't named in the proxy. The company's 2023 annual report said it had granted $120M of performance-based options for the year. Bloomberg reported that the awards are part of its succession planning for BlackRock's (BLK) next generation of leaders.
