According to Morgan Stanley, U.S. e-commerce is projected to grow at an 8% compound annual growth rate, reaching 29% of retail spending by 2028. However, the firm cautions that larger e-commerce players will dominate market share gains. Analyst Nathan Feather highlighted that Amazon (AMZN) and Walmart (WMT) captured nearly two-thirds of the incremental e-commerce spending in 2023, leaving smaller players competing for the remaining sales. Morgan Stanley's e-commerce sector ratings reset included a double upgrade for eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) to Overweight from Underweight, and a downgrade for Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY) to Underweight. The firm cited Etsy's limited frequency growth as a reason for the bearish medium-term growth trajectory, while eBay's generative AI features and comparative valuation were noted as positives.
