Apple's iPad has been added to the EU's Digital Markets Act, giving the tech giant six months to ensure compliance with the rules under the DMA, according to Bloomberg News. The Digital Markets Act establishes criteria for large online platforms as "gatekeepers" to ensure fair behavior online and contestability. In September 2023, the European Commission designated six gatekeepers, including Apple, under the DMA. The DMA and EU's Digital Services Act regulate online intermediaries and platforms to protect consumers and their rights online. Previously, Apple's AppStore, iOS mobile operating system, and Safari fell under the purview of the DMA, which became effective on March 7. The European Commission has also launched a non-compliance probe against Apple, Alphabet's Google, and Meta for potential violations under the DMA.
