AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) drew attention on Wednesday as Wall Street analysts expressed optimism about the company's future, particularly in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. The company's guidance for the second quarter indicated a potential uptick in performance. The company expects second-quarter sales to range between $5.4B and $6B, with the mid-point aligning with the $5.69B consensus. AMD also raised its outlook for AI-related revenue for the full year to over $4B, up from a previous estimate of $3.5B. Although the increment may have disappointed some investors due to supply constraints, J.P. Morgan analyst Harlan Sur emphasized the company's growth potential in data center GPU revenue and its ability to gain market share from competitors. Furthermore, Mizuho analyst Vijay Rakesh highlighted AMD's early stage in the AI GPU market compared to industry leader Nvidia. Despite lowering the price target, Rakesh maintained a positive outlook based on the performance of Turin data center product and the Ryzen 8000 PC chip. Expectations of strong AI sales in the upcoming months were echoed by Citi analyst Christopher Danely, who noted the perceived underestimation of AMD's revenue forecast for the MI300. KeyBanc Capital Markets analyst John Vinh expressed confidence in the potential of the MI300 and suggested that the $4B outlook might prove to be conservative. In its first-quarter results, ending March 30, AMD reported earnings of $0.62 per share on $5.47B in revenue. The Data Center segment saw an 80% year-over-year increase to $2.3B, supported by the MI300 AI accelerator and Ryzen and EPYC processors. Meanwhile, the Client segment, encompassing AMD's PC business, recorded an 85% year-over-year growth to $1.4B. However, Gaming revenue declined by 48% and revenue from the Embedded segment fell by 46%.
