Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and OpenAI are in the final stages of discussions to bring the startup’s technology to the next iPhone as the Cupertino, California-based tech giant looks to add AI features to its devices, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. According to the people, Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)-backed OpenAI are finalizing terms for a deal to integrate the latter’s ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system. In March, Bloomberg News reported that Apple (AAPL) had started similar deliberations with Alphabet-(NASDAQ:GOOG)-(NASDAQ:GOOGL)-owned Google for licensing its AI model Gemini for the iPhone. Those discussions are ongoing, and the two parties have yet to reach an agreement. If an agreement with OpenAI is finalized, a popular chatbot will headline a new set of AI features that Apple (AAPL) is set to announce next month at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference. A near-term announcement of a potential between the two is not yet guaranteed. Apple (AAPL), OpenAI, and Google refused to comment.
