Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, a direct rival to Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT)-backed OpenAI, announced on Wednesday that Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger will join the firm as chief product officer. Mike Krieger, formerly the chief technology officer at the Meta (NASDAQ:META)-owned platform, led a team of over 450 people to scale Instagram to more than a billion users. In recent years, Krieger has worked on building a personalized news app called Artifact, which was later acquired by Yahoo. "I'm thrilled to join the exceptional team at Anthropic and partner with them to design and scale transformative products like Claude," said Krieger. Anthropic's Claude is a generative AI chatbot that has garnered a lot of attention, similar to the likes of OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. Mike will oversee Anthropic's product engineering, product management, and product design efforts as we work to expand our suite of enterprise applications and bring Claude to a wider audience, the startup added.
