CoreWeave, a cloud service startup backed by Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA), has secured $7.5 billion in debt funding, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. The Roseland, N.J.-based company raised this new funding from investors including Blackstone (BX), Carlyle Group (CG), and BlackRock (BLK), leveraging the ongoing artificial intelligence boom. According to CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator, a significant portion of the new capital will be allocated towards the acquisition of AI chips, servers, and networking equipment. This funding follows a recent $1.1 billion equity financing round, which valued the company at $16 billion, marking a substantial increase from its $7 billion valuation in December. Notably, CoreWeave had previously accessed the debt markets in a unique manner, securing $2.3 billion in debt backed by Nvidia's AI chips last August, with support from investors such as Blackstone. The company, which currently operates from 14 data centers, leases access to Nvidia's AI chips and aims to expand to 28 data centers by the year's end, as per The Journal. Established in 2017, CoreWeave holds the distinction of being the first specialized cloud services provider in the Nvidia Partner Network.
