FIFA Collect, the official digital collectibles platform of FIFA, is set to migrate from the Algorand blockchain to its own Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible FIFA blockchain, with the transition scheduled to begin no earlier than May 20. This move aims to enhance performance, scalability, and unlock future features for users.

Originally launched on Algorand in 2022, FIFA Collect briefly expanded to Polygon in late 2023 but is now fully moving away from Algorand. The migration means users will need to switch from Algorand-compatible wallets like Pera and Defly to EVM-compatible wallets, such as MetaMask or Rabby. Importantly, users must re-import any previously exported NFTs before May 20 to ensure a smooth transfer.

The platform's official FAQ highlights that the new FIFA Blockchain is designed to support better performance, enable wallet compatibility, and serve as a stronger foundation for future innovation and new experiences. Though the core user experience remains the same, the shift marks a significant pivot from Algorand, whose token ALGO has recently suffered a steep decline, trading at around $0.22—down nearly 94% from its 2019 peak.

While FIFA Collect representatives have so far declined detailed public comments, the platform plans to share more details about the upcoming blockchain soon. Algorand Foundation expressed goodwill toward FIFA’s pivot but refrained from commenting on any specifics.

This migration reflects broader trends in blockchain adoption, where performance demands and scalability increasingly drive projects to build customized solutions tailored to their community and platform needs. As FIFA Collect evolves, users are encouraged to prepare by ensuring their NFTs are properly re-imported and to familiarize themselves with EVM-compatible wallets to continue enjoying their digital collectibles seamlessly.
