(VSI) experienced a major data breach affecting four million individuals, exposing sensitive personal information including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and genders.The breach was detected on February 28, 2024, with unauthorized access occurring around February 27, 2024. VSI immediately secured its network and engaged an independent digital forensics firm to investigate the incident, completing a comprehensive review by April 17, 2025.VSI, a provider of employee benefits administration services such as COBRA administration, dependent verification, ACA reporting, and more, promptly notified affected customers. The company is offering identity theft protection services that include dark web monitoring and $1 million in insurance coverage.So far, there is no evidence of misuse of the compromised information. The incident has been reported to the FBI, and VSI has enhanced its security protocols to help prevent future breaches.This incident highlights the growing risks employees face regarding identity theft and privacy violations from cybersecurity attacks on benefits administration firms.
