Lyft has partnered with Bee Maps, a decentralized mapping platform built on Hivemapper infrastructure, to enhance its internal mapping efforts. Starting in 2024, Lyft is using Bee Maps' street-level mapping data to improve routing and support its autonomous vehicle strategy.

Bee Maps operates on a crypto-incentivized network on Solana, rewarding contributors with its native HONEY token for uploading street imagery via AI-powered dashcams. This partnership involves Lyft licensing mapping data only, without contributions from Lyft drivers.

The collaboration reflects Lyft's move towards more flexible, real-time mapping systems beyond traditional providers. Bee Maps emphasizes crowd-sourced, live, accurate, and open mapping as essential for mobility and autonomy, a sentiment echoed by Bee Maps CEO Ariel Seidman.

While Lyft has previously contributed to open-source projects like OpenStreetMap, this deal deepens its commitment to innovative mapping technologies. Terms of the agreement between Lyft and Bee Maps have not been disclosed.
